Petra Toscana Rosso IGT 2012
JAMES SUCKLING: Aromas of plum, berry and hints of spice such as nutmeg. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Lovely now to drink. Balanced red. A cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Why wait?
VINOUS: The 2012 Petra, the estate's flagship is terrific. Remarkable detailed for such a big, explosive wine, the 2012 boasts serious depth and intensity throughout. Dark red cherry, plum, graphite, smoke and tobacco are some of the signatures. The 2012 is layered and deeply expressive throughout. Sweet herbs, sage, tobacco and earthy notes add nuance on the ferrous, savory finish. It would be great to see all the Petra wines at this level.
WINE SPECTATOR: This is harmonious and supple in texture, setting the backdrop for black currant, coffee, cedar, tobacco and stony flavors. Almost seamless, with refined tannins and a youthful character. The long aftertaste echoes fruit, herbal and mineral elements. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2028.
